September 13, 2011

SAN ANGELO – In her first home match, Angelo State sophomore midfielder Maggie Schaffer recorded the Rambelles first hat trick since 2006 in a 5-0 victory over Texas-Permian Basin on Tuesday. The Belles outshot the Falcons, 27-3, in the contest with the other two goals coming from captains Lauren Carnes and Brandie DeBacker.

Schaffer scored back-to-back goals in just over a minute to give the Rambelles (1-1) a 2-0 lead 18 minutes into the contest. Angelo State's Katelyn West collected the assist on the opening goal, after she split a pass through the Falcons (1-2) defense to an open Schaffer who found the back of the net.

The Belles' offense continued to produce, as Carnes and DeBacker both scored before halftime. Carnes, a junior from Amarillo, scored in the 36 minute, while DeBacker chipped in her second goal of the season in the 40th minute. The New Braunfels native now has 27 career goals and 64 career points, which are both the third-best marks in program history.

Hanna Horeis collected her second assist of the match when she chipped the ball to Schaffer in the 59th minute for her third and final goal of the day.
The Rambelles freshman goalkeeper, Morgan Harrison, recorded her first career shutout wearing blue and gold. The Colleyville native played all 90 minutes in the box, and tallied two saves.

Angelo State will return to the pitch at 5:30 p.m. on Friday for a contest against Colorado State-Pueblo in Pueblo, Colo.
