Regis on Win Streak, Three Wins in Five Days

September 28, 2014

Denver, Colorado: Closing out a week with three games in a span of five days, the Regis University Rangers Men’s Soccer team comes together to earn their third win in a row.  The Rangers defeated the Fort Lewis Skyhawks (5-3) 3-1 on the road Sunday afternoon moving to an overall record of 6-1 and 4-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The Skyhawks fired nine shots at junior goalkeeper Christian Nicolosi (Highlands Ranch, Colorado) but he remained strong making four saves to keep the score at an even 0-0.  Both teams headed into the break looking for some momentum and their first goal.

Freshman forward Sawyer Lincoln (Colorado Springs, Colorado) gave Regis the go-ahead goal in the 59th minute of play finishing a rebound off the post from a shot initially taken by senior forward Martin Maybin (Belfast, Northern Ireland).  Shortly after in the 64th minute, Lincoln scored his second goal of the match when he connected on a long pass from sophomore defender Louis Barrow (Newcastyle Upon Tyne, England).  Lincoln’s goals were his first and second of the season and as a Ranger.

RU’s third goal came in the 70th minute of play when Lincoln and Barrow switched roles.  Barrow connected on a pass from Lincoln to score his second goal of the season and give Regis a comfortable cushion.  The Skyhawks responded with their first goal of the match in the 77th minute but could not find any more scoring success.

The Rangers were outshot 24-12 with seven of the 12 on target.  Sophomore goalkeeper Connor Adkisson (Federal Way, Washington) subbed in at half and recorded four saves and saw ten corner kick chances.

RU has a couple days off before traveling to Colorado Christian on Wednesday, October 1 at 6 p.m.
