Rhodes and Slayton to Attend PPA Combine

February 21, 2013

SUNRISE, Fla. – Houston Soccer seniors Katelyn Rhodes and Ciara Slayton have been invited to participate in the inaugural Peak Performance Academy Combine on February 22-24 at the Sunrise Holiday Inn Sports Complex.

“I am very excited that Katelyn got invited to the combine,” Head Coach Chris Pfau said. “It is well deserved, and she has worked very hard for this opportunity.  I have only worked with her for a season, but her growth in that year has been tremendous.  She is not only a great player, but a great person that has represented Houston and the soccer program very well.”

Rhodes, a four-year letterwinner, started in all 19 games during her final season for the Cougars. She registered four goals, while logging 1,684 minutes. The Lubbock, Texas native, tied for the team led in assists (3) and game-winning goals (2).

Slayton joined the team as a junior, transferring from Tyler Junior College. She found a place on the Cougar’s back line starting 27 of 37 matches and logging 2,637 minutes, while contributing to 10 shutouts.

The three-day event will give each player an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of some of the world’s best clubs, the National Women’s Soccer League and the Women’s Professional Soccer League. The players will participate in physical testing, a training session, and play in full matches under the guidance of current college coaches. Goalkeepers will go through goalkeeper specific training. At the end of the weekend each player will get an evaluation of their play that they can share with agents or teams that were not represented.
