Rider Rallies Past Saints

October 8, 2016

Clement Bourret scored the game-winning goal in the 64th minute as defending MAAC Champion Rider rallied past Siena Soccer 2-1 in New Jersey. Junior goalkeeper Aleksa Radosavljevic made five saves for the Saints which saw their three-match win streak snapped.

All three goals came over a 16 and a half minute span early in the second half. Siena (4-6-2, 2-1) struck first just 1:59 into the stanza as they were the beneficiaries of an own goal for the third time this season. Freshman back Cameron Allen’s free kick off a set piece was deflected in by a Rider (7-3-1, 2-1-1) defender to put the Saints in front.

But the lead would be short-lived as the Broncs, which entered play ranked 22nd in the latest NCAA RPI Report and who are receiving 25 votes – the 30th highest total in this week’s NSCAA Top-25 Coaches’ Poll, netted the equalizer just three and a half minutes later from Joe Panuccio.

Bourret then completed the comeback off a feed from Elliott Otmani as Rider won in a rematch of last year’s MAAC Semifinals in defeating the Saints for the fourth time in a row.

The Broncs held slim edges in both shots (15-13) and corners (7-5) in a tightly contested affair. Ryan Baird made three saves in goal for Rider.

Siena returns home to host defending MAAC Regular Season Champion Monmouth Wednesday at 3 p.m.
