Saint Louis men fall to Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond scored a first-half goal and hung on for a 1-0 Atlantic 10 Conference men’s soccer victory Friday night at Ukrop Park.
The Billikens (3-5-2, 1-2-0 A-10) remain on the East Coast to face George Washington Sunday, Oct. 17. Kickoff is slated for noon (CT). Richmond improves to 3-7-1 and 2-0-0 in league play.
The Spiders got on the board late in the first half. With roughly 30 seconds remaining in the frame, UR’s Jake Russell buried a shot from 15 yards out to give Richmond the 1-0 lead. The goal officially came at 44:34 and was unassisted.
SLU earned an advantage in shots, including several chances late in the match, but Richmond keeper Brock Tomlinson kept the Billikens off the scoreboard by making six saves. Nick Shackelford made one save for the Billikens.
Benny Estes recorded five shots, while Alex Sweetin, Devon Newport and Adnan Gabeljic record two shots each.
