#Seawolves lose to Northeastern 3-2 in OT

September 28, 2014

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The #Seawolves (2-6-1) stormed out to a 2-0 lead only to see it evaporate in a 3-2 overtime loss to Northeastern (3-6) on Sunday evening at LaValle Stadium. Junior Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.) scored his third goal of the season, while redshirt freshman Fernando Wadskier (Caracas, Venezuela) scored his first career goal.

Anatol's Reaction
"I'm disappointed with the result. When you go up 2-0 at home you expect to win the game," said Anatol. "We have to do more to win games and punish teams when we have the lead. In the first half we did some good things to go up by two goals but it's a 90 minute game and we have to find ways to finish games off."

Goal Recap

  • Giordano capped a gorgeous opening goal when he volleyed sophomore Eduardo Valle's (Miami, Fla.) diagonal ball inside the far post in the 16th minute. Freshman Vince Erdei (Budapest, Hungary) picked up his first career point on the play with an assist.
  • Wadskier put the #Seawolves up 2-0 in the 30th minute with a firm, left-footed strike that beat the keeper low and to the short-side.
  • Christian McKenna scored a critical goal with just 18 seconds left in the first half to bring the Huskies back into the match. He took advantage of a defensive miscommunication, split two defenders with his dribble, then slotted home the finish for the first of his two goals.
  • McKenna's second goal tied the game with just 5:52 left in regulation, taking a feed from Frantzdy Perrot, who had three assists, to knot the game at 2-2.
  • Nick Goo won the game for the Huskies in overtime when he poked home a loose ball in front.

Notes

  • The loss dropped Stony Brook to 1-1-1 at LaValle Stadium this season.
  • Giordano scored a goal in both games this week, the first time he has scored in back-to-back games since he did so against Buffalo and Sacred Heart in September of 2012 as a freshman.
  • The stats show a dead even match. Northeastern won the shot battle 10-9 but the Seawolves held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Corners kicks titled towards the Huskies, 5-4.
  • Giordano paced Stony Brook with three shots and three shots on goal.
