DENVER – Senior Andre Shinyashiki (Sao Paulo, Brazil) recorded his 12^th career multi-goal game, including his fifth-straight, to give the [4/4] University of Denver men’s soccer team a 2-1 extra-time victory over Tulsa on Monday night at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.

Shinyashiki, who leads the country with 19 goals on the season, has scored more goals than all but 12 of the 205 NCAA Division I programs in the country (using team goal totals entering play on Monday and not including Denver). The Denver captain has scored each of the Pioneers last 10 goals in the last three wins of a five-game winning streak.

Tulsa grabbed the opener in the 41^st minute courtesy of Harris Partain’s first of the season off assists in the build from Koray Easterling and Chase Bromstedt. Easterling played the ball in from his centerback position to Easterling 30 yards out. Easterling slipped in Partain who placed his finish to the left of redshirt-senior goalkeeper Nick Gardner (Marvin, N.C.).

Shinyashiki leveled the match in the 62^nd minute on a one-touch finish inside the far post off assists from sophomore holding mid Jacob Stensson (Stockholm, Sweden) and senior winger Kenny Akamatsu (Niigata, Japan). Stensson sprayed the ball out wide from the midfield line to the run of Akamatsu, who got to the top of the penalty area before sliding it to Shinyashiki for a right-footed finish inside the far post. Shinyashiki’s first tally broke Denver’s single-season points record on Monday night with points 37 and 38 of the campaign. Akamatsu earned his team-high sixth assist of the season on the equalizer, while Stensson tallied his third from his holding midfield position, and the seventh of his career.

Denver controlled the rest of the second half, outshooting Tulsa 8-3 in the final 45 minutes of regulation, but couldn’t find a winner and the Pioneers went to extra time for the third time this season.

With 94 seconds left in the second period of extra time, Shinyashiki knocked home his 19^th of the campaign off assists from freshman winger Stefan DeLeone (Fort Collins, Colo.) and freshman attacking midfielder Liam Johnson (Golden, Colo.). Johnson played a header back to the top of the box to DeLeone who gave it right back to Johnson down the right side of the box. Johnson played it to the top of the six yard box to Shinyashiki who took a touch to his right before striking it back across goal into the left side netting. DeLeone and Johnson each earned the first assists of their rookie seasons on the winner.

The game-winner is the seventh of the season for Shinyashiki, which also leads the NCAA, and the 15^th of his record-breaking Pioneer career. Shinyashiki’s seventh game-winning goal also broke Denver’s Division I single-season record for winners. On his 71^st CAP, Shinyashiki now has 42 career goals.

Denver outshot Tulsa 20-6, including only allowing two shots on goal or less for the 14^th time since the start of the 2017 season, including the sixth time in nine matches in 2018. The Pioneers also took seven of the match’s eight corners.
