It was a monumental week for men’s Division I soccer last week. Off the field, Stanford and other programs kicked off the #academicyearmodel campaign on social media in support of changing the current format of the Division I season.

On the field, there were a number of key battles over the weekend including some conference clashes. Notre Dame topped Syracuse in a crucial ACC battle while Creighton got off to a winning start in the Big East.

Check out which players made a difference over the past week and made the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week.

Player of the Week: Riggs Lennon, Creighton

Team of the Week (Sept. 19-25)

GK Stuart Ford, Kentucky - Ford made six saves on Sunday to help Kentucky secure a 1-0 win over New Mexico. Ford was called on a few times to make difficult stops in the close battle between CUSA rivals. He also recorded a shutout against ETSU during the midweek clash.

D Tim Kubel, Louisville - Kubel had five assists last week. He contributed the lone assist in Louisville’s 1-0 win over Saint Louis on Tuesday. He added four more assists on Friday as Louisville rolled to a 6-1 win over Virginia.

D Nick Carroll, Cal Poly - Carroll contributed the assist on Justin Dhillon’s game-winning goal against UCLA over the weekend. Carroll also helped limit the potent UCLA attack to only two shots on goal during the game.

D Ross Tetro, Rutgers - Tetro’s goal-line save helped the Scarlett Knights snag a point from the conference battle against Indiana. He was in the right spot to keep Indiana off the scoresheet in the scoreless draw.

M Jad Arslan, West Virginia - Arslan scored the game-winner for West Virginia in the 1-0 win over UNC Greensboro on Saturday. Arslan and the rest of the West Virginia side set the record for the program with the seventh consecutive shutout on Saturday.

M Graham Smith, Denver - Smith scored twice in Denver’s 4-3 win over IPFW on Saturday. The goals were the second and third of the defensive midfielder’s college career. Smith and Denver improved to 8-0-2 on the season.

F Robert Miller III, Bowling Green -  Miller scored a goal and added an assist in Bowling Green’s 2-0 win over Ohio State. He also assisted on Bowling Green’s 1-1 draw against Dayton. Miller, a freshman, is second on Bowling Green with eight points this season.

Bruening came off the bench and scored four goals in 41 minutes of play as North Carolina thumped Boston College 5-0.

F Riggs Lennon, Creighton - Lennon scored all four goals in Creighton’s 4-1 win over DePaul on Saturday. The offensive output tied a program record for the Jays. Lennon leads the Blue jays with eight goals this season.
