FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The King University women's soccer team starts the season 4-0 for the first time in the division II era. Rachel Thorpe and Miranda Smith both add two to power the Tornado past the lions of Emmanuel College to earn their first Conference Carolinas win.

It took a little bit of time for King to adapt to playing on the road but it was a matter of time before the shots began to come. In the 13th minute, Eydis Eysteinsdottir hit a shot that sailed high of the net.

About a minute later, Thorpe ripped a shot that resulted in her seventh goal of the year assisted by Hulda Sigurdardottir.

King continued the offensive attack in the 15th minute where Thorpe delivered a shot on net, which was saved by Emmanuel goalie Breanna Grizzle.

In the 22nd minute, the Tornado added their second goal. Smith took a pass from Sigurdardottir and delivered the ball in to the back of the net to make the score 2-0.

The shots did not stop as Sigurdardottir ripped one in the 28th minute that was saved by Grizzle. Paula Doran added another a minute later that drifted to the right. In the 31st minute, Nicole Dagher was tested but came up with the save that kept the Lions scoreless. The halftime whistle blew and King was up 2-0 at the half after tallying six shots and holding Emmanuel to two.

Emmanuel (0-2, 0-1) had a promising attempt in the opening minutes of the second half where Liene Vaciete put a header at the net that sailed high. The Tornado flipped the field quickly as Eysteinsdottir fired a shot, sailing high of the frame. King kept the pressure in the Emmanuel end as Sigurdardottir and Eysteinsdottir put shots on net, both saved by the keeper. The Tornado continued to attack the opposing keeper with shots but nothing would see the back of the net.

In the 61st minute, King struck again when Miranda Smith netted her second goal of the game, fourth of her young career. Eysteinsdottir was credited with the assist.

A short three minutes later, Thorpe added another for the Tornado, this time assisted by Miranda Smith.

Katie Keys and the rest of the defensive end held the opponent scoreless yet again. Dagher made two saves on the night to record her fourth clean sheet in the early season.

King (4-0, 1-0) tallied 15 shots and held Emmanuel to five. King also recorded two corner kicks and held the lions to one.

King will be on the road Wednesday, September 17 when they will travel to Carson Newman. They return home on Saturday, September 20 to face Converse College, a Conference Carolinas opponent.
