Trine Drops Tough Defensive Battle
ANGOLA, Ind. - It ended in heart break for the Trine University women’s soccer team as they fell to Hope on two late goals, 2-0. The Thunder are now 1-11-2 on the year and 0-9-1 in the conference.
Trine’s defense came up huge in the first half as the two teams would play to a scoreless half, despite the Thunder being out-shot 10-1.
The Thunder would pitch a shutout through the first 25 minutes of the second half before Hope would break through in the 70th minute. The Flying Dutch would score again in the 85th minute after Trine was called for a handball near the box.
Trine held Hope to just five shots in the second half, while the Thunder had a shot attempt in each period, one each by sophomore Amy Williams (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Northrop) and freshman Skyler Reed (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll).
Freshman goalie Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich./Olivet) made nine stops on the afternoon for the Thunder.
Trine will get right back to action on October 13 when they travel to Albion for a 12:00 p.m. match.
