Tulsa Drops 1-0 Decision at Temple

October 27, 2018

The Tulsa men’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Temple on Saturday night at the Temple Sports Complex in Philadelphia, Pa.  The Golden Hurricane fell to 5-9-2 on the season and 1-5 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Owls moved to 5-8-4 overall and 2-3-1 in the league.

“We made a bad mistake in terms of giving the ball away in a bad area that led to their goal,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said.  “We created some chances, Chase [Bromstedt} hit the crossbar, and we played pretty well for much of the game, but we weren’t good enough in the critical moments and that has cost us some games this season. We had a great chance with four seconds to go and the goal was called back for offsides.”

Lukas Fernandes scored the game-winner at the 26:15 mark as he shot from inside the box off a pass from Elias Villegas.

Temple had a narrow 12-10 lead in shots, including a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal, while Tulsa had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Thomas Wells had a team-best two shots, while eight others had one attempt.  Bryson Reed played the first half in goal for the Hurricane and picked up two saves, while Cooper Clark was between the posts in the second half and also had two saves.

Tulsa will return to action on Friday, November 2 against UConn.  Game time is set for 6:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
