Tulsa Falls to UConn, 1-0
The Tulsa women’s soccer team fell to UConn, 1-0, on Thursday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU dropped to 3-10-2 on the season and 1-4 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Huskies moved to 4-5-3 overall and 2-1 in the league.
“I thought we played with a lot of heart tonight,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. “They played for each other and there was a commitment on both sides of the ball. We played several people out of their regular position and had a make-shift back line tonight, but for them to do what they did throughout the entire game was tremendous. It was a team effort tonight and although we only used the four subs available, I was pleased with their fight, energy and effort.”
Vivien Beil scored the lone goal of the contest as she punched in a rebound attempt taken by Yamilee Eveillard from just one yard out.
UConn had a 21-14 lead in shots, including a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal, but both teams had seven corner kicks.
Alyssa Kaiser, Tana Dake and Rachel Thun-Blankenship all had three shots, while Christina Holmes and Reagan Whitlow added two attempts apiece. Courtney McKeon logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up 11 saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, October 8 against Temple. Game time is set for 1:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
