ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - UC San Diego was edged by 11th-ranked league leader Sonoma State, 1-0, in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) women's soccer action at Seawolf Soccer Field on Sunday.

UCSD, which was coming off of back-to-back shutout victories, dropped to 9-5-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the CCAA. Sonoma State improved to 10-1-2 and a still-undefeated 7-0-1 in league play. The Seawolves stretched their unbeaten run to 11 (9-0-2) since their only loss, including eight straight wins, the last six via shutout.

It was just the Tritons' second loss ever to Sonoma State, and first in Rohnert Park. UCSD still leads the all-time series, 16-2-3, with its only prior defeat in La Jolla, 3-2, on Sept. 29, 2013. The Tritons had taken a critical 1-0 decision at Seawolf Soccer Field late last season, with Sonoma State ranked 15th at the time.

The home side controlled the action over the first 45 minutes, registering the only nine shots by either side in the period, with eight of them on frame. Seven necessitated saves by senior Triton goalkeeper Kelcie Brodsky. The remaining effort accounted for the game's only goal in the 18th minute. Miriam Bloom provided a short pass from left to right toward the left edge of the penalty area, and Marissa Marable unleased a right-footed blast that snuck right in between the left post, the crossbar, and Brodsky's reach as she moved to her right to try to prevent the score. It marked Marable's third goal on the year.

UCSD's first shot of the contest came in the 55th minute, by freshman phenom and CCAA scoring leader Mary Reilly (Chula Vista/Hilltop HS), but her effort was blocked. Reilly then smacked one off the crossbar in the 58th, and seconds later, forced the first save of the afternoon by Seawolf goalie Ashley Luis.

Brodsky completed the match with a season-high 12 saves, falling one short of her top output as a Triton. It marked the third time in her career and second time this season that she reached double digits in saves. Luis needed to make just a single stop in achieving her league-best 10th shutout.

The Tritons were out-shot 19-5 on the day, with Reilly accounting for three of theirs.

"We didn't play very well in the first half, but were better in the second," said UCSD head coach Brian McManus. "It really came down to one good opportunity on each end. They finished theirs, and we didn't. Sonoma is a good team as their ranking would indicate. They had a lot of shots, but none that caused Kelcie (Brodsky) to have to make a really good save."

UCSD returns home to host area foe and new CCAA member Cal State San Marcos this Wednesday, Oct. 21. Kickoff at Triton Soccer Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.
