November 9, 2009
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro seniors Jen Bronson and Lauren Lopez were named to the Southern Conference All-Tournament Team, the league announced after Sunday’s championship game.
The Spartans were eliminated 1-0 in the semifinals by Davidson on Friday night. UNCG finished the season 13-7 overall and went 9-2 in the SoCon to win its fourth straight regular-season league title.
Lopez, a defender, earned a spot on the team for the second season in a row. The award was the first of its kind for Bronson, a midfielder.
Davidson, which beat College of Charleston 1-0 in double overtime for the SoCon tournament title on Sunday, put four players on the all-tournament team. Louise Timboe, Lauren Conner, Jessie Baxa and Amanda Flink all earned spots for the Wildcats. Flink, who scored the game winner in the 109th minute – just 1:33 before the game would have been decided by penalty kicks – was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
The Cougars put Emily Morgan, Julie Romanik and Morgan Benz on the team.
Samford, which played to a scoreless draw with College of Charleston in Friday’s first semifinal and fell in penalty kicks, placed Kelly Shaffer and Colette Nammour on the team.
