Per league and club policy, further terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

Allen played for Real Salt Lake’s academy from August 2011 to December 2012. The 18-year-old featured with the club’s residential academy in Arizona after spending one semester with the U.S. U17 Men’s National Team Residency Program in Florida in spring 2011.

“This is the reason I first moved to the Academy in Arizona,” Allen said in a club release. “At the same time, I know that this is just the first step, and I need to stay grounded. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to play at RSL, but I know that I have plenty of work to do in order to become a successful pro.”

The Rochester, N.Y. native scored three goals and contributed five assists during his lone season with the Cavaliers. Allen scored the game-winner against Connecticut(m) in the Elite Eight to send Virginia to College Cup for the first time since 2009.

Allen was named to the All-ACC Third Team and All-ACC Freshman Team following the 2013 college regular season.

At the college and club level, Allen has predominantly featured as an attacking talent with appearances on the wing as well as at forward. On the youth national team stage, the teenager has played outside back most recently.

RSL referred to Allen as “versatile” and capable of playing any of those positions in announcing the signing.

During his one season with Virginia, he showed the technical ability to make the mark as an attacking player at the professional level. He continued to display the toughness that made him a highly sought after recruit for the 2013 class – TopDrawerSoccer.com ranked him as the No. 4 player from the 2013 class behind Diego Fagundez, Zachary Pfeffer, and Jack McBean.

Born in 1995, Allen is eligible for the next U20 World Cup in 2015. He featured with the U.S. U18 MNT in 2013.
