KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The University of Idaho played a scoreless first half at Kansas City, Friday afternoon, but could not even out the season series against the Kangaroos. UMKC stormed out of the gate in the second half, closing out the game, 2-0.

Kansas City’s Taylor Bare continued to be thorn in the side of the Vandals. In the first game of the series, Bare scored two goals against the Vandals, including the overtime game-winner. Bare notched another game-winner, her fourth of the season, on Friday.

The first half was played evenly across the board. Idaho held a slight lead in shots going into halftime with a 3-2 advantage. Neither team was able to register shot a on goal. The Vandal defense held the UMKC offense without a shot on goal in the first half for the second time this season, repeating the feat from the first matchup (Sept. 29).

“We had a good first half and produced a lot of good things,” head coach Pete Showler said after the loss. “In the second half we were second best everywhere and the result matched the performance. At this level second best is not going to cut it.”

Kansas City (9-7-1, 6-3-0 WAC) opened the second half strong and in the 53rd minute it broke the tie. Bare played the ball from Alyssa Elver and put it across the goal line from the right side of the box for her 11th goal of the season. The ‘Roos recorded the first 12 shots in the second half, before Alyssa Pease fired a shot over the net in the 86th minute.

Idaho (3-13-0, 3-6-0) was led by senior Chelsie Breen with her two shots, landing one on target. In all the Vandals mustered three shots on goal and five shots throughout the 90 minutes of play.

Emily Herndon gave UMKC a bit of insurance with her goal in the 74th minute. She put the ball past Marina Siegl to put the game out of reach for the Vandals.

Idaho will have a quick turnaround as they head to Las Cruces, N.M., to take on the Aggies on Sunday. New Mexico State currently seventh in the WAC plays Seattle U on Friday. Sunday’s game is set for 12:00 p.m. PT.

Notes: Breen has now started 76 out of her 77 career games and now has sole ownership of fourth on the all-time games started list…Siegl has now started 15-of-16 games this season in net…Friday marked Siegl’s third complete game on the season…her five saves on the day now give her a team high 55…entering Friday’s games Siegl led the WAC with a .778 save percentage…Idaho had its lowest foul total of the season today, getting whistled only three times…the Vandals allowed only two corner kicks on Friday, the lowest attempts by an opponent this season.
