The Boston University women's soccer team (0-0-1) opened its 2011 campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at No. 4 Boston College (0-0-1) on Friday night at Newton Campus Soccer Field. Senior Jessica Luscinskiscored the Terriers lone goal in the 24th minute.

Luscinski scored on a free kick from 25 yards out after sophomore Kylie Strom drew a foul driving towards the box. Boston College responded 17 minutes later with the game-tying goal as Victoria DiMartino put away a rebound.

The tie was the first in the series history between BU and BC, which now stands 12-4-1 in BC's favor.

The Eagles maintained a 15-13 advantage in shots, while also taking the game's only corner kick. For the Terriers, Luscinski led the way with five shots on goal, and senior Krista Minto recorded two.

Sophomore Kelly King played the first 40 minutes in net, making one save, while senior Alice Binns took over for the final 70 minutes and collected four stops. Binns was critical in the second half as she made three spectacular saves in the final 20 minutes to keep the game tied.

In the early moments of the match, both teams were finding their rhythm before Luscinski fired off the game's first shot on goal six minutes in. She provided much of the fire power during the first half and her efforts paid off in the 24th minute when she made the most of a free kick 25 yards out, placing the ball just under the cross bar for the game's first goal.

With five minutes remaining in the half, BC knotted the score, 1-1, as Victoria DiMartino picked up a rebound inside the six-yard box.

In the second half, BC's Julia Bouchelle had the best opportunity as she came down the middle on a near breakaway before Binns came aggressively off her line to cut down the angle and smother the attempt. The Eagles kept Binns active as she was forced to dive to her left on a low strike by Kristen Mewis in the 69th minute.

Mewis nearly struck again in the 83rd minute as she unleashed another low strike to the far right corner that Binns scooped up. Senior Brittany Heist put one last shot on net for the Terriers before the game was sent into overtime.

In the extra period, freshman Taylor Krebs forced Mastroianni to make a point-blank save, as she one-timed a cross from Luscinski on the outside flanks. The shot proved to be the best opportunity for either team in overtime as BU's backline staunchly defended its end and withheld the Eagles from gaining any momentum.

The Terriers host their home opener on Sunday (Aug. 21) when they welcome Northeastern to Nickerson Field at 7 p.m.
