Louisville women lose to Cincinnati

Updated: September 19, 2009
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Louisville women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0
decision to the host Cincinnati Bearcats on Friday night at the Gettler
Stadium in the BIG EAST Conference opener for both teams.
The Cardinals are now 2-4 overall and 0-1 in BIG EAST action, while the
Bearcats improved to 5-3 and 1-0 in BIG EAST play.

“Cincinnati competed tremendously hard tonight,” said Louisville head
coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. “We played good soccer and had enough
chances to score, but once again, we couldn’t take advantage of those
opportunities. Cincinnati converted its chances and that was the
difference.”

After the two teams played a scoreless first half, Cincinnati gained a
1-0 lead in the 50th minute as Sydney Barker scored her first goal of
the season on an assist from Melissa Bigg on a corner kick. Following
four shots from the Cards’ offense over the next 23 minutes, the
Bearcats closed the scoring in the 73rd minute as Kendall Loggins earned
her third goal of the season on an assist from Erin MacDonald for the
final 2-0 margin.

The Cardinals, which had a six-game winning streak against UC halted on
Friday, finished with an 18-11 advantage in shots, including an 11-7
margin in shots on-goal, while the Bearcats held an 8-3 advantage on
corner kicks. Cincinnati goalkeeper Andrea Kaminski finished with 11
saves, including seven in the second half, while Cards’ freshman Taylor
Vancil finished with five saves overall.

Up next, the Cardinals will play their final non-conference game of the
season at Butler on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in Indianapolis, Ind. Following
the Butler game, Louisville will return home to host BIG EAST Conference
foe DePaul on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. ET at Cardinal Park before
taking back to the road at Notre Dame on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. ET
in a game to be televised nationally by CBS College Sports.
