St.Louis women beat Memphis

ST. LOUIS – Senior Susan Frederickson (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph’s) tallied a goal and an assist, and sophomore Hannah Perry (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) made a season-high seven saves Friday night to lead St. Louis(w) to a 2-0 triumph over Memphis at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
Sophomore Andrea Barklage (Lake St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word) netted her second goal of the season at 34:03 to give Saint Louis (3-4-1) all it would need to record its second consecutive victory. Off a corner kick by Frederickson, who picked up her second assist of the year, Barklage buried a shot from five yards out for a 1-0 Billiken lead.
Frederickson tacked on an insurance goal at 70:15. Senior Ashley Hayes (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word) sent a cross to Frederickson, whose eight-yard shot into the net gave the midfielder her third goal of the season and Hayes her second helper of the year. Frederickson leads the Billikens with three goals and eight points.
Memphis (4-3-0) out-shot Saint Louis 13-7 overall and 7-5 in shots on goal. The Tigers’ Vendula Strnadova and Frederickson tied for game-high honors with four shots apiece, with three of Frederickson’s shots on net. The Billikens earned a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Saint Louis begins its 11-game Atlantic 10 Conference slate Friday, Sept. 25, at home against La Salle. Game time at Robert R. Hermann Stadium is 7 p.m.
