September 20, 2009
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Senior Kiersten Dallstream scored two goals and freshman Brandi Vega added a goal and two assists to lead Washington State past Stephen F. Austin 5-0 in nonconference women’s soccer, Sunday.
The Cougars (6-2-0) got on the board first in the 16th minute when senior Carly Dobratz intercepted a pass near midfield and connected on a cross to freshman Brandi Vega in the box. Vega beat Stephen F. Austin (3-5-0) goalkeeper Courtney Bauder for her fourth goal of the season.
Vega assisted on junior Emma Stolz’s goal in the 28th minute and sophomore Megan Chapin netted an unassisted tally in the 39th minute to give WSU a 3-0 advantage at the half.
“We’re happy to get out of here with a win,” WSU Head Coach Matt Potter said. “It was a very tough environment and it took us about 15 minutes to settle in. Once we did that, we made better passes and created some opportunities on offense.”
In the 73rd minute, Dobratz sent a long pass ahead to Vega who fed a cross to Dallstream. The senior’s shot inside the near post gave the Cougars a 4-0 lead. Dallstream added an unassisted goal in the 76th minute to account for the final score.
WSU returns home to play Weber State, Friday, Sept. 25 at 3 p.m. The Cougars will host a 20th Anniversary Season celebration dinner that night.
