Northeastern women fall to Maine

In the final game of their non-conference schedule, the Huskies were defeated 4-1 by the Black Bears at their home field in Orono, Maine. Stephanie Gordon recorded five saves for Northeastern, while Meagan Leinbenzeder made seven stops for the Black Bears. The Huskies are now 4-4-2 all-time against their former America East conference opponent.

The Black Bears struck early as forward Laura Martel Martel scored her fifth goal of the season just 3:46 into the match. Maine then went up 2-0 in the 39th minute when Josee Descoeurs scored her first of the season.

Maine struck again, making it 3-0 on an indirect kick five minutes into the second half. In the 57th minute Northeastern got on the board as senior co-captain Liza Rebello found the back of the net for the third time this season. Northeastern then scored an own goal, falling with a final score of 4-1.

Northeastern is now 5-2-0 as they enter their conference schedule this week. Next game, the Huskies will travel to play CAA opponent Drexel on Thursday, Sept. 24th, at 4:00 p.m.
