Utah Valley loses to Idaho State

September 24, 2009
POCATELLO, Idaho -- Adrienne Schneider ended the scoreless streak and Tasha Bell had several big saves but Utah Valley fell 2-1 at Idaho State on early and late goals on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bengals (4-4-0) took a 1-0 lead 1:16 in and then broke a 1-1 tie in the 83rd minute to send the Wolverines (1-8-0) to their fourth straight defeat.

Annamarie Hofstetter made it 1-0 Idaho State in the second minute when she scored on a Kacey Ball assist from 30 yards out.

Scheider's goal came in the 39th minute on an assist from Kelly Vide, tying the game and ending a 294-minute, nearly-three-game drought without a goal for Utah Valley.

ISU came right back and threatened to re-gain the lead when the Bengals were awarded a penalty kick just over a minute later. But Lauren Ryan's shot was saved by Bell and despite 10 first-half corner kicks by the Bengals, the score remained 1-1 at the break.

The penalty kick was Idaho State's first of the season and the second against Utah Valley so far in 2009.

The match seemed destined for overtime until Rachel Strawn's goal on a Ashley Jones assist with 7:32 remaining sent Idaho State to the win.

Bell finished the match with eight saves while Bengal keeper Bailey Williams had four.

ISU tied a school record with 13 corner kicks to just two for UVU while also outshooting the Wolverines 24-13 including 10-6 on goal.

Utah Valley will have over a week off now to prepare before Portland State on Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. at Clyde Field.
