TAMPA -110 minutes of non-stop action would prove to be not enough time to decide an outcome as the University of
South Florida women’s soccer team and the Pittsburgh Panthers played to a scoreless tie at Founder Field Thursday evening.
“Tonight was a very well played match,” said USF head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. “ I am proud of the way the team came in and battled for 110 minutes. We understand that every league game from here on out will be a difficult task and tonight proved that. Pittsburgh is tough place to come in and play. Of course we wanted to come out with a victory but a tie on the road in this conference is an acceptable outcome.”
Although neither team would put one in the back of the net, both teams provided plenty of scoring chances for them selces.
The two teams combined to take 29 shots each.
USF, now 3-4-2 on the season and 0-1-1 in conference, held an advantage of shots on goal with a 8-7 margin.
Freshman Taylor Patterson and Brittany Burt led the way offensively with two shots on goal apiece.
Senior goalkeeper Mallori Lofton-Malachi was solid in goal for the Bulls. The Bulls captain from Philadelphia stonewalled any scoring opportunities that the Panther’s dished out making seven saves in 110 minutes of action.
Making her 44th consecutive start, Lofton-Malachi notched her 17th career shutout and her second of the season.
Joining Lofton-Malachi in playing the entire match were Patterson and freshman Bahar Sansar.
The Bulls will now return home to the friendly confines of USF Socccer Stadium for the start of a five match home stand as they will look to pick up their first conference win of the season when they will host West Virginia on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. on a game that will televised on Bright House Sports Network.
