Missouri State men lose to Houston Baptist

DALLAS, Texas – The Missouri State men’s soccer team (3-2-1, 1-0-0) held Houston Baptist (4-4-0) off the scoreboard for 88 minutes before the Huskies scored the go-ahead goal in the 1-0 HBU win.

The Bears’ offense tallied 16 shots including seven on goal, but were unable to get one by Huskies’ goalkeeper Michael Bouchahine.  Paul Paradise led the attack for Missouri State with five shots.  Thomas Vania and Brandon Durk each added three shots.

Missouri State goalkeeper Alex Riggs made three saves in the loss.  He ended a streak of 416 minutes and 21 seconds without allowing a goal.

The Huskies got their goal in the 89th minute off an Adam Jakle pass into the box that Duke Ogega put in the corner of the net.

Missouri State will face host, SMU, in the finale of the SMU Classic on Sunday with a 1:30 kickoff at Westcott Field.

Following this weekend’s SMU Classic, the Bears return home for a three-game homestand beginning Thursday, October 1 against Denver at 4:00 p.m.  Missouri State will then host Eastern Illinois October 4 at 1:00 p.m. and Creighton October 7 at 4:00 p.m. to open the home portion of conference play.
