Arkansas Pine Bluff vs. Alcorn St. suspended

Updated: October 2, 2009
PINE BLUFF, Ark.-Thursday night’s Alcorn State versus Univ. Arkansas Pine Bluff football game was suspended due to inclement weather. The contest, which was scoreless at halftime, was delayed due to weather at approximately 8:10 p.m. with about three minutes to go in the halftime period.

At that time, the UAPB Marching Band was concluding its performance and both teams were making their way out of the locker room for stretching and warm-up prior to the second half kickoff.

“Safety was our first and foremost concern,” SWAC Commissioner Duer Sharp said. “The lightning remained in the immediate area during the delay.  After waiting the extended period of time and confirming with Athletic Directors and head coaches of both schools and our Coordinator of Football Officials, we all concluded suspending the game was the appropriate decision.”

Lightning moved into the stadium area and continued for nearly three hours before the game was officially suspended at 11 p.m.
