Updated: October 3, 2009
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University of Akron women's soccer team lost 2-0 to Western Michigan in a Mid-American Conference match played on Friday under cold and windy conditions at WMU Soccer Complex.

Western Michigan (5-4-1, 2-1-0) scored what would prove to be the eventual gamewinner in the sixth minute off a header by Kelsey Carmichael and then put in an insurance goal in the 78th minute, courtesy of Nikolette Rivera. Rivera's goal also came via header.

Statistically, the game was even. Akron (2-5-2, 0-2-1) led in the shots category, 16-15, and both squads took seven shots on goal and each had four corner kicks.

Nine different Zips took at least one shot, with sophomore Rachel Phillip leading the attack with three shots and two shots on goal. Freshman Ashley Hughes also had three shots. UA sophomore goalkeeper Jeny Wolbert made five saves, playing all 90 minutes.

Akron continues a stretch of four-straight away contests at Northern Illinois on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
