Baltimore, Md. - Junior Kelly Thomas scored on a free kick for an insurance goal and assisted on Nicole Schiro's game-winner 2:43 into the second half as the Loyola (MD) women's soccer team remained unbeaten in MAAC play with a 2-0 win over Rider Saturday afternoon on Alumni Day at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field. The victory puts the Greyhounds alone in first place in the MAAC.

Being the 15th anniversary of Loyola’s first MAAC Regular Season and Tournament titles, several alumni from the 1994 team returned to the Charm City and were honored at halftime.

After Loyola (7-4-2, 3-0-0 MAAC) outshot the Broncs, 7-3, in a scoreless first half, the Greyhounds struck quickly after the intermission as junior Lina Staropoli controlled the ball to Thomas, who shot it ahead to Schiro for her team-high fourth goal of the season. The game-winner also gives Schiro ten points on the season, which also leads the Greyhounds.

Thomas added an insurance goal with 18:31 remaining when her free kick looped over the Rider goalkeeper and into the right side of the net. For Thomas, it was her second goal of conference play and she has tallied at least a point in all three MAAC games this season.

Senior goalkeeper Brittany Henderson recorded her fourth shutout of the season by stifling the Broncs with three saves. Henderson also had help in front of her as Rider could only muster a single shot in the second half.

Graduate student Theresa Ferraina recorded a game-high five shots on the day, including a shot that was the best opportunity for either team in the first stanza.  After taking a pass from Kelly Farrell at the top of the box midway through the half, Ferraina pivoted and fired a shot, which was stopped by a diving Alex Post, the Broncs goalkeeper.

Post made five saves on the day for Rider, while Lauren Musumeci led the attack with two shots in the matchup.

Loyola returns to action Friday when it hosts Marist (5-3-2, 2-0-1 MAAC) at 4 o'clock in MAAC play. Marist is currently alone in second place in the conference.  The ‘Hounds are 11-1-4 all-time against the Red Foxes with a 5-1-2 mark at home.  Loyola is 6-0-3 in the last nine games against Marist with the last loss coming in 2001 at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field, 1-0.
