Oregon State men fall to Stanford

Updated: October 10, 2009
Corvallis, Ore.-  The Oregon State’s soccer team fell to No. 23 Stanford Friday night in a hard fought 1-0 contest at Cagan Stadium in Stanford Calif.

The one and only goal in the match came with 3:59 gone off the clock in the first half on a free kick by Stanford’s Bobby Warshaw for his fourth goal of the season. The free kick came after Oregon State goalie Steve Spangler touched the ball with his hands outside of the goalie box.

Oregon State (5-4-2 overall, 1-2-0 Pac-10) had its chances throughout the match by compiling 13 total shots particularly in the second half when it ripped off 10 shots.

Sophomore Danny Mwanga leads the team with seven goals on the season but was held scoreless in the match but had four shots with one coming on goal.

Freshman Eddy Prugh came on the bench and gave the Beavers a spark with three shots, one on goal, but he too could not put one in.

Stanford (7-2-0, 1-1-0) had 10 shots in the game with half of them going on goal. Only two Cardinal players had multiple shots in the game, Warshaw and Dominique Yahyavi both had two shots.

The trip through the Bay Area does not get easier with the Beavers traveling to Berkeley, Calif. to take on the California Golden Bears Sunday, Oct. 11 at 2pm.
