Francis Marion women defeat Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. – Sophomore forward Amanda Hall scored a pair of goals, one in each half, to help drive Francis Marion University to a 3-0 blanking of Eastern Kentucky University, Sunday afternoon (Oct,. 11) in  women’s soccer action.
 
Francis Marion improves to 2-11-1, while the Colonels drop to 4-8-2.

FMU junior midfielder Rebecca Nelson headed in the Patriots’ first goal of the match off an assist from Angela Salem in just the fifth minute.  Five minutes later, after a shot deflected off the crossbar, Hall headed in another shot to put the Patriots up 2-0.  Freshman Rebeccah Hoekstra was credited with an assist on the second tally.

In the 59th minute, Hall ended FMU’s scoring with her second goal of the day, this time taking a pass from Kayla Denmyer, dribbling past an EKU defender and firing a 12-yard shot past EKU keeper Emma Werner to make it 3-0.
 
The Patriots outshot the Colonels 11-5 and led 6-4 in corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Casey Durham registered two saves in the shutout win.  Werner made three saves on the day before being replaced by junior Ashley Green.  

Francis Marion will play its Senior Day match on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Longwood University.
