Wake Forest women defeat NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior forward Allie Sadow scored a pair of goals to lead No. 6 Wake Forest to a 2-0 win against NC State on Thursday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.
The win was the 200th in the coaching career of head coach Tony da Luz. Da Luz’s career record now stands at 200-133-22, while his record at Wake Forest is 155-92-20.
With the victory, Wake Forest improves to 11-2-1 and 3-1-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while NC State drops to 7-6-1 and 2-4-0 in league play.
Sadow tallied a goal in each half to provide the winning margin for Wake Forest. Sadow scored her first goal in the sixth minute and added a second in the 63rd minute.
Sadow recorded the third multi-goal game of her career and also notched her second and third goals of 2009. Jackie Logue assisted on Sadow’s first goal, while Kaley Fountain had an assist on the second tally.
Junior goalkeeper Amanda Barasha recorded her fourth straight shutout in goal. Barasha made three saves in earning the clean sheet.
NC State held a slight 9-6 advantage in shots. Wake Forest had three corner kicks, compared to two for the Wolfpack.
Kim Kern made two saves and allowed two goals for NC State. Offensively, Kara Blosser had a team-leading three shots.
Wake Forest struck first with a goal in the sixth minute. Logue played a cross from the left side of the field that found Sadow at the left edge of the six. Sadow deposited her shot into the right side of the net to put the Deacs in front 1-0.
NC State had its only shot of the first half in the 10th minute. Off a corner kick, Meredith Parrilla had a shot attempt from the top of the 18 that went wide left of the goal.
The Deacs had a chance to double their lead in the 34th minute. Marisa Park had a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box. Park chipped a shot over the wall, but it right to Kern, who was able to make the save.
NC State had several shot attempts in the early stages of the second half. Kara Blosser had a shot in the first minute of the second half that was saved by Barasha.
Blosser had another shot on frame in the 59th minute, but Barasha was again able to make the stop.
Kristen Meier had the first shot attempt of the second half for the Demon Deacons, coming in the 62nd minute. Meier’s attempt from the top of the 18 was saved by Kern, who made a diving stop.
The Deacs doubled the lead with Sadow’s second goal of the match in the 63rd minute. Fountain played a through ball to Sadow, who was one-on-one with the keeper. Sadow slid the ball past the charging keeper to make the score 2-0.
Wake Forest was able to limit NC State’s chances for the rest of the match and held on for the 2-0 victory.
Wake Forest opens a three-match home stand on Sunday, playing host to Miami at 1 p.m. Any fan that brings a church bulletin to the game can buy one ticket at full price and get another ticket for free.
