October 16, 2009
Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Boston University women’s soccer team’s (9-5-2, 5-1-1 AE) seven-game winning streak came to an on Thursday night as it fell, 2-1, to Stony Brook (6-7-2, 5-1-1 AE). Freshman Megan McGoldrick scored the Terriers’ lone goal to bring them to within one, however, they were unable to find the equalizer.

After finding itself in the 2-0 hole early on in the contest, the Terriers began to mount their comeback, unleashing three shots before breaking through in the 23rd minute when McGoldrick took a shot from 20-yards out that deflected off the right post and into the back of the net for her third goal of the season.

Following the goal, BU continued to press Stony Brook’s defense as McGoldrick recorded back-to-back shots within the next minute, and senior Farrell McClernon peppered SBU’s Marisa Viola with a pair of strikes a few moments later.

In the second half, sophomore Jessica Luscinski nearly connected on the equalizer; however, her shot attempt hit the post in the 70th minute. Up by one goal, Stony Brook continued to put the pressure on and hit the post with just over a minute remaining in regulation, while its defense held BU without a shot the rest of the way to earn the win.

Senior Janie Reilly made one save in net, and freshman Catherine Calsolaro made her collegiate debut in the 82nd minute.

BU will look to rebound on Sunday (Oct. 18) when it welcomes Hartford to Nickerson Field at 2 p.m.
