Buckeye women draw with Wisconsin

October 17, 2009
COLUMBUS, Ohio - In the first game of a three-game road swing, No. 19 Ohio State plays to a 1-1 draw Friday evening at Wisconsin.

Five days after defeating Northwestern 1-0 on a goal with 49 seconds remaining in regulation, the Buckeyes were on the other side of the coin against the Badgers.

After Tiffany Cameron put the Buckeyes on top 1-0 in the 63rd minute, Ohio State held the lead until 18 seconds remained when Wisconsin freshman Monica Lam-Feist knotted up the score at 1-1 where it would stay after two overtime periods.

In a first half played mostly in the midfield, each team was able to muster just a pair of shots on goal. Both Buckeye shots came from senior co-captain Ashley Bowyer but each was stopped by Wisconsin goalkeeper Michele Dalton.

The best Badger opportunity came in the 43rd minute when Krista Liskevych controlled the ball off a corner but her shot from the top of the box was deflected just over the crossbar by Buckeye goalkeeper Lauren Robertson.

The Buckeyes came out strong early in the second half but were unable to capitalize on a couple early chances but that would all change in the 63rd minute. After her header sailed just high two minutes earlier, freshman Cameron drilled home a header for her third goal of the season off assists from Bowyer and sophomore Colleen Brady.

The pace would quicken after the Buckeyes took the 1-0 lead with both teams battling for each opportunity.

The game remained tied until just 18 seconds left in regulation when Wisconsin Lam-Feist controlled the ball inside the box and scored to send the game into overtime.

The only shot of the first overtime period came four minutes in from Buckeye Courtney Jenkins but Dalton was able to make the save. The second overtime period was much of the same as the only opportunity came from Lauren Steuer in the 110th minute but her shot sailed high.

The game was almost as even statistically as it was on the scoreboard. The Buckeyes recorded 12 shots, seven on goal, to 11, five on goal, for the Badgers. Wisconsin held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.

The Buckeyes (10-2-2, 3-1-1 Big Ten) continue their three-game road trip when they travel to Minnesota to take on the Golden Gophers at 2 p.m. Sunday.
