Missouri State men defeat Drake

Updated: October 21, 2009
Seniors Samantha Aguilar and Jenna Dobkins tally two goals to defeat the Drake Bulldogs 2-0 on Missouri State Senior Day.  The Bears are now 7-5-2 overall and 3-1-0 in Missouri Valley play.

The Bears played the game very aggressively, racking up eight shots and six fouls in the first half alone.  Their torrid pace paid off, however, when in the fifth-minute, freshman Megan Jaskowiak fired a shot into the box that was deflected by senior Dobkins for a goal.  Missouri State continued to take numerous shots all half, but no more found their mark.

In the second half, the Bulldogs matched the pace of the Bears, limiting Missouri State to four shots.  In the 74th minute, the Bears struck pay dirt again on a laser from senior Aguilar.  The goal came after a corner from Jessica Smits was picked off by the Bulldog defense.  Tara Bailes then swooped in, recovered the ball and sent it into the box where Aguilar was waiting and she pushed it in for the Bears second and final goal.

“We played really tough,” Missouri State head coach Rob Brewer.  ”We controlled the ball very well and worked it around to get a open shots from different people.  That’s what we wanted to do today and we did it.”

Missouri State will return to action Friday, Oct. 23, when they take on the Sycamores of Indiana State in Terre Haute at 6 p.m.  The Bears will wrap up their home schedule on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. against Illinois State.
