BU women win big

BOSTON - Seven different Terriers found the back of the net on Wednesday afternoon, as the Boston University women’s soccer team (11-5-2) defeated Bryant, 7-0, at Nickerson Field. Senior Farrell McClernon and sophomore Jessica Luscinski led the way with one goal and one assist apiece, while sophomore Brittany Heist and freshman Adrienne Anderson scored their first collegiate goals in the victory.

Ten different players recorded at least one point in the game, and three underclassmen earned their first collegiate points. Along with Heist, sophomore Krista Minto and freshman Brea Hewitt made their way onto the score sheet for the first time in their careers, as they each assist on goals.

The Terriers’ seven-goal performance was their highest scoring output since Oct. 22, 2004, when they put up seven against Albany.

BU scored its first goal of the game in the 19th minute when Luscinski connected on her eighth assist of the season as she sent a cross into McClernon, who one-timed it into the net for her fifth goal of the year.

Luscinski nearly made it a two-goal game minutes later when she rocketed a shot from 20-yards out and hit the far left post less than a minute later. At 24:26, she found the back of the net, as McClernon returned the favor, sending her a pass from deep in the Bulldog’s territory, where she one-timed it in.

Heist added to the Terriers’ goals in the 28th minute. Minto, who was deep inside the box, pushed the ball out to Heist at the top of the box, where she unleashed a hard shot to the lower left side.

In the second half, BU came out aggressive as McClernon hit the cross bar and the post within a one-minute span of each other. BU’s persistence paid off in the 49th minute as senior Emily Pallotta headed home the Terriers’ fourth goal of the game off a corner kick from freshman Megan McGoldrick. It was Pallotta’s team-leading sixth goal of the season.

BU continued to pressure as McGoldrick recorded her fourth goal of the season off a pass from sophomore Cynthia Warman in the 57th minute. Sophomore Tiya Gallegos rounded out the scoring in the 80th minute when she collected a rebound at the top of the box and nailed it home.

NOTES: McClernon’s three points on Wednesday evening pushed her into eighth among BU’s all-time scoring leaders as she has now totaled 49 in her career. Pallotta cracked the top ten in BU’s all-time scoring list, as she now has 43 over the last three and a half years. Luscinski’s eight assists, sit alone in fourth for a single season, and she is now three away from tying Deidre Enos’ eight-year-old record.
