Northwestern women fall to Wisconsin

November 3, 2009
EVANSTON, Ill. – Wisconsin’s Erin Jacobsen scored with 55 seconds remaining in regulation, breaking
a tie and lifting the Badgers to a 2-1 win over Northwestern women’s soccer at Lakeside Field Monday.

The game-winning goal followed a NU turnover deep in the ’Cats end of the field. Jacobsen gained
possession of the ball, then turned and fired a right-footed shot from the top of the circle and
into the upper right corner of the net.

Alicia Herczeg (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura) continued her run of dominating play in the match for
Northwestern. The senior scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 24th minute off a
shot from the right side of the box, tying the game at 1-1. Caroline Dagley (San Rafael, Calif./The
Branson School) assisted on the goal. Herczeg took three of Northwestern’s eight shots in the match
and put two on target.

The Badgers took an early lead in the 15th minute off a Paige Adams tally.

Northwestern had several scoring chances in a physical second half, which was marked by three
yellow cards. Juniors Jennifer Baumann (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) and Sam Greene (Santa
Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) each put a shot on frame in the second stanza but were unable to get
them past Wisconsin goalkeeper Michele Dalton.

Northwestern keeper Carolyn Edwards (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) made a pair of saves in the contest.

The Wildcats return home to close out the 2009 season on Friday night, when they host in-state
rival Illinois. Northwestern’s senior class will be honored prior to the 7 p.m. match at Lakeside
Field, which features free parking and admission.
