Dayton men fall to Saint Louis in Atlantic 10 final

November 16, 2009
KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Dayton Flyers were thwarted in their bid for their second consecutive Atlantic 10 tournament title, falling to the No.2-seeded Saint Louis Billikens 2-0 at the URI Soccer Complex on Sunday.

Despite outshooting the Billikens, the Flyers were limited on their quality of shots, registering two on net against Saint Louis goaltender Ross Kaufman.

Goalkeeper Tyler Picard made five saves in the contest.

“I thought Saint Louis deserved the match. However, I was proud how our boys fought these last 16 games going 14-2,” head coach Dennis Currier said. “I was proud of response from the seniors they battled until the end, but it just wasn’t our day.”

Saint Louis opened the scoring in the 58th minute cashing in on a rebound in front of Picard’s net.

Scott Wisniewski’s crossing pass connected with Saint Louis’ top-scorer Mike Roach for the insurance tally over Dayton.

“We’ll watch the selection show on Monday and hopefully we have done enough to earn a bid,” Currier said.

The Flyers await their NCAA Tournament fate during tomorrow’s Division I Men’s Soccer Selection Show on ESPN News at approximately 5:30 p.m. ET.  For the latest on the Flyers visit www.DaytonFlyers.com.
