Creighton's Schuler and Sinovic invited to MLS combine
December 11, 2009
Creighton men’s soccer standouts Chris Schuler and Seth Sinovic are among the initial list of 62 college seniors from 44 NCAA Division I schools who have been invited to participate in the 2010 adidas MLS Player Combine as announced Thursday by Major League Soccer. The annual player combine will be held at Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., January 8-12, 2010.
The duo was named to the NSCAA All-Midwest Region Teams on Thursday as well after helping anchor another successful Bluejay defense this season. The pair of co-captains was also on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List at the start of the season – the award annually given to the top player in Division I soccer.
Schuler became the ninth player in school history to be named first-team all-MVC three times – the first since David Wagenfuhr (2001-03) – earlier this fall. The All-American defender guided the Bluejays back line to much success again in 2009, leading the MVC with a 0.76 goals against average. CU posted 37 shutouts over the last four years with Schuler anchoring the defense from his center back position.
Sinovic was a repeat first-team all-MVC honoree as he has again combined stellar defensive play with a knack for attacking when needed. He ranked second on the team with three goals, four assists and 10 points, all coming from his left back slot. The Jays posted eight shutouts with Sinovic leading the way in the back.
The coaching and management staffs of all 16 MLS teams will be in attendance to scout talent at the 2010 adidas MLS Player Combine, which concludes two days before the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. At the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, 42 of the 60 players drafted attended the 2009 adidas MLS Player Combine – 10 combine players were selected in the first round. The 2010 MLS SuperDraft will be held on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 in Philadelphia.
The initial player list was determined by a select panel of Division I college coaches representing all conferences who nominated and voted for players in conjunction with MLS coaches. Youth players from the Generation adidas program will join additional collegiate players from NCAA Division II and III schools, NAIA schools and Division I alternates to finalize the 2010 adidas MLS Player Combine. The final player list and team assignments will be announced in the coming weeks.
The 2010 adidas MLS Player Combine will separate all players into four teams and feature two games per day at Central Broward Regional Park on Jan. 9, 10 and 12. Each team will be led by a Division I coach who will be assisted by a soccer professional.
