UConn's Stahl, Watson-Siriboe and Pezza invited to MLS combine

STORRS, Conn. (Dec. 10, 2009) – University of Connecticut men’s soccer standouts Toni Stahl, Kwame Watson-Siriboe and Mike Pezza have been chosen to participate in the 2010 adidas MLS Combine set for Jan. 8-12 at Central Broward Regional Park in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. A list of 62 college seniors from 44 Division I schools have been invited to participate. The Huskies send three players to the event, while only one other Division I program had more than three players invited.

The coaching and management staffs of all 16 MLS teams will be in attendance to scout talent at the 2010 adidas MLS Player Combine, which concludes two days before the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. The 2010 MLS SuperDraft will be held on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 in Philadelphia.

Stahl, who was a solid performer for the Huskies throughout his four-year career, earned multiple postseason awards, including the 2009 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year honor and was once again a unanimous selection for the All-BIG EAST First Team. Stahl and his fellow seniors led UConn to its 30th overall and 12th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2009, while the Huskies earned their 11th BIG EAST Regular Season title en route to an 11-4-4 overall record in 2009.

Watson-Siriboe was named the 2009 BIG EAST Co-Defender of the Year while earning a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team in 2009. Watson-Siriboe earned BIG EAST Defender of the Week honors twice during his final season with the Huskies and was named to the Soccer America Men’s Team of the Week on Sept. 28. The senior finished the year earning a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer.com Men’s College First Team and the Goal.com First Team.

Pezza’s dominate presence in the midfield made UConn a fierce competitor in he nation as the Huskies spent all but one week ranked in the top-25 of the NSCAA/adidas Poll, finishing the regular season ranked ninth in the country. In Division I men’s soccer, UConn was ranked fourth at the end of the regular season in shutout percentage, sixth in goals against average and ninth in save percentage with a mark of .863.

Despite missing five games midway through the year, Pezza was chosen for the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Nov. 3 to finish out the regular season. He finished his career by scoring three goals along with his four assists during his senior year. The midfielder wrapped up his career at UConn with five goals and 34 assists after leading the NCAA in 2007 with 19 assists.
