UNC, Stanford remain 1-2; Vancil named POTW
August 30, 2010
North Carolina has retained the top spot of the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s Tournament 64 National Ranking following a 2-2 draw with Stanford on Friday and a 6-1 win over Missouri Sunday. Stanford stays at #2 following the draw and a 2-1 win over Duke.
The Friday night match was quite a thriller and certainly makes the prospect of a national championship rematch between the two in December that much more likely, but both Anson Dorrance, who won his 699th game for the Tar Heels, and Stanford coach Paul Ratcliffe will be quick to point out there is a lot of soccer to be played before that can happen.
The ranking is a running effort to project the 64-team NCAA Tournament field, including all automatic conference and at-large bids to the field. It is updated every Monday through the season. Click here to see the entire ranking.
Meanwhile Louisville’s Taylor Vancil has been named TopDrawerSoccer.com Player of the Week following her role in the Cardinals’ two wins this weekend, including a surprise victory over South Carolina. Vancil made a number of key saves both in that game and Louisville’s 2-0 win over Bucknell.
