CHICAGO (Jan. 30, 2011) – The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team will travel to La Manga, Spain, from Feb. 3-15 for the Four Nations Tournament that also features Switzerland, Germany and Norway.
U.S. head coach Steve Swanson has called up 20 players for the tournament, which will see the USA open with the Swiss on Feb. 9, face the Germans on Feb. 11 and finished with the Norwegians on Feb. 13. Fifteen of the 20 players on the roster are in college with five in high school, including both goalkeepers, Bryane Heaberlin of the Clearwater Chargers and Abby Smith of the Dallas Texans.
Swanson is preparing his squad for CONCACAF Qualifying that will take place in Panama City, Panama, from March 1-11. That tournament will send three teams to the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which was to be held in Uzbekistan but has since been relocated by FIFA. The new host has not yet been confirmed, but Japan is the front-runner.
