Updated: August 31, 2009
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Caitlin Hulyo’s save with six seconds remaining preserved a 2-1 nonconference women’s soccer victory for host Colorado College over No. 19 Washington State at the Colorado College/Fairfield Inn Invitational, Sunday.

Washington State (2-1-0) took a 1-0 lead at 22:46 when senior Carly Dobratz’s header found the mark off a corner kick from sophomore Jacquelyn Roth. The Tigers (2-0-0) tallied the equalizer on a goal by Kelly Lavoie at 32:45 and the scored remained 1-1 well into the second half.

In the 63rd minute, the Cougars appeared to have taken a 2-1 lead, but they were whistled for offside. In the 67th minute, Meredith Smith took a pass on the left wing and her cross into the box was taken by Tiffany Brown who beat WSU goalkeeper Meghan Berlingo for the game-winner.

“Colorado College defended very well and didn’t back down,” Cougar Head Coach Matt Potter said. “We possessed the ball well enough to create some chances, but we didn’t capitalize. We have to learn from that and move forward.”

In the final 19 minutes, Washington State had four shots, including freshman Brandi Vega’s bid for the equalizer in the waning seconds, and three corner kicks. The Cougars outshot the Tigers 15-7 and held a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.
