Stony Brook men fall to Harvard

Updated: September 4, 2009
Cambridge, Mass. (September 4, 2009) – Despite freshman Berian Gobeil’s (Montreal, Quebec) first collegiate goal, the Stony Brook men’s soccer team lost at Harvard, 4-1, in non-conference play on Friday afternoon.  Andre Akpan had two goals and an assist for the Crimson (1-0).

Scoring the Seawolves’ first goal of the season, Gobeil took a pass from senior James Palumbo (Carmel, N.Y.) and beat Harvard goalie Austin Harms to his right from about 20 yards out.  Harvard scored its first goal in the 35th minute on a breakaway.

Akpan scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 50th minute, tallying a goal off a free kick.

Gobeil led Stony Brook (0-2) with three shots and junior Diego Acero (Greenport, N.Y.) had two.  Redshirt-freshman Anthony Rogic (Boonton, N.J.) went the distance in goal, making three saves.

The Seawolves stay in the New England area for the weekend, taking on Bryant (0-2) on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm.
