Chestnut Hill, MA – Boston College women’s soccer improved to 4-0 as the Eagles defeated Holy Cross, 4-0, in front of 615 fans on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the Newton Soccer Field. The Eagles will host Marist on Friday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.
The Eagles are now unbeaten and un-scored on in four games this season.
It took the Eagles a half to figure out the Holy Cross defense, which packed five defenders in the back and four in the middle of the field.
Junior defender Hannah Cerrone was the only BC player to find the back of the net in the first half. Cerrone took the ball from the back and dribbled through a number of defenders to right outside the 18-yard box. Cerrone cut the ball back twice and ripped a shot to the left of a diving Holy Cross goalkeeper for a 1-0 BC lead at the 11 minute mark. The goal gave Cerrone a point in every game this season. She now has one goal and three assists for five points.
Boston College had 13 shots to two for Holy Cross at the half.
In the second half, Boston College offensive attack came alive. Freshman Victoria DiMartino, who had six shots in the game, gave BC a 2-0 lead in the 57th minute. DiMartino one-timed a cross by Brooke Kowlton into an open goal from just three yards out. It would be DiMartino’s fifth goal of the season and extends her point scoring streak to four games.
The Eagles kept the pressure on as sophomore Julia Bouchelle would give BC a 3-0 lead. Bouchelle picked up a loose bouncing ball at about the 16-yard line and placed it over the goalkeepers’ outstretched hands in the 67th minute. The Eagles went up 4-0 when Alyssa Pember scored her first goal of the season. Pember knocked home a cross from Cerrone from four yards out. The play began with a corner kick which Holy Cross cleared but was punched back in by Bouchelle and Cerrone.
Cerrone and Bouchelle had one goal and one assist on the day, while BC goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni picked up her fourth shutout of the season. Boston College had 28 shots in the game, while the defense held Holy Cross to just two.
