Stony Brook men fall to Lafayette

Updated: September 4, 2010
Easton, Pa. (Sept. 3, 2010) – Despite freshman Will Casey’s (Setauket, N.Y.) first collegiate goal, the Stony Brook men’s soccer team fell to Lafayette, 3-1, at the Lafayette Soccer Classic on Friday.  Casey’s goal in the 60th minute broke a scoreless tie, but the Leopards scored three goals in the next 14 minutes.  Rob Bedson’s goal in the 80th minute was the game winner.

Junior Wilber Bonilla (Brentwood, N.Y.), who assisted on the game-winning goal against Hofstra on Wednesday night, fed Casey as he was in on the goalie.

Sam Feldbaum struck for Lafayette (2-0-0) in the 80th minute to tie the game at one.  Bedson tallied his marker less than eight minutes later.  Stephen Macurdy also scored for the Leopards, beating sophomore Stefan Manz (Bronx, N.Y) in the 84th minute.

Stony Brook (1-1-0) outshot its opponent for the second straight game, and forced Lafayette goalie Andrew Pianko to make eight saves.  Casey, redshirt freshman Marc Godelman (Paramus, N.J.) and sophomore Mehdi Belakehal (St. Hubert, Quebec) each took three shots.

Manz made three saves in his second straight start for Stony Brook.

After a day off, Stony Brook faces Colgate on Sunday at 12 pm.  It will be the first meeting between the Seawolves and Raiders.
