Fordham men beat Lehigh

Article Written By Fordham Athletics

Bethlehem, Pa. - Fordham sophomore Doug Hanly (Westborough, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal, while junior goalkeeper Ryan Meara (Crestwood, N.Y./Fordham Prep) made seven saves in net, as the Rams topped the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, 1-0, in Bethlehem, Pa.

With the win, Fordham evens its record at 1-1-0, while Lehigh goes to 1-1-0.

Despite being out shot, 19-8, in the game, Fordham broke the scoreless tie in the 51st minute, as Julian Nagel (Kiel, Germany) crossed a ball from the right side to Hanly in the box.  Hanly then drilled a header inside the far post for his first collegiate goal.

Meara and the Rams' defense made that lead stand up, as he made five of his seven saves, after Fordham scored, including one on a James Graf header with under a minute left in regulation.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, September 10th, when they play at nationally ranked Louisville, beginning at 7:00 PM.
