Oregon State women defeat UC Davis

September 6, 2010
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon State women’s soccer team defeated UC Davis to improve its record to 3-0 on the season with a goal in the 89th minute off the foot of Melinda Ingalls for her second goal of the season at the University of Oregon Nike Tournament in Eugene.

“We created plenty of opportunities for ourselves,” Oregon State women’s soccer head coach Linus Rhode said following the match. “We played well and stuck to the game plan especially along the back line and our goalkeeper.”

The Beavers allowed 10 shots by UC Davis (1-2 overall) during the game but only three were on goal. Those three were then saved by keeper Colleen Boyd who is now 3-0 on the season with three straight shutouts.

Oregon Sate recorded 15 shots during the game and was very aggressive on offence but only had two shots on goal but one was all the Beavers would need. The ball was crossed into the box and then was redirected to Ingalls who drove it past the keeper in the box. Courtney Wetzel and Ashley Seal were in on the play and got assists.

“It took a lot of patience,” Rhode said. “We stayed patient and were able to put one in late for the win.”

Ingalls now leads the team in goals scored this season with two and points with five. Wetzel has three points, all coming off of assists. Both Ingalls goals and all three of Wetzel’s assists have come in the last two games.

Oregon State has come up clutch in the late stages of games so far this season with five out of its six total goals coming in the second half.

The Beavers return home Friday, Sept. 10 to take on the Portland State at Paul Lorenz Field in Corvallis starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free for fans. Those attending the match are encouraged to "Help Fight Hunger" by bringing a canned food item to donate to community outreach.
