Boston U women lose to Monmouth

Updated: September 7, 2010
BOSTON -  The Boston University women’s soccer team (2-4-0), which is receiving votes in the most recent NSCAA poll, dropped a 2-1 decision to Monmouth (4-0-0) on Monday afternoon at MU’s Kessler Field. Freshman Emma Clark  scored her second goal of the season to tie the game in the first half; however, the Hawks tallied the game-winning goal in the 70th minute and held on for the victory.

The Terriers broke up the Hawks’ 281-minute shutout streak when Clark headed home the team’s lone goal of the game off a header pas from graduate student Lisa Kevorkian, who had received a long pass from freshman Erin Mullen.

Clark’s goal knotted the game at 1-1 just seven minutes after MU’s Dana Costello opened up scoring in the sixth minute when she beat freshman netminder Kelly King to the near post. Monmouth, which is receiving votes in the NSCAA national poll, scored the go-ahead goal in the 51st minute when Lisa Fierro dished it off to Mary Wilks, who one-timed it past Binns.

BU is the only team to score on Monmouth this season and it maintained a 7-6 edge in shots led by Kevorkian and senior Lina Cords with two shots apiece. In net, King played the first 45 minutes and junior Alice Binns logged the final 45 minutes, making one save along the way.

The Terriers will continue with their four-game road stretch as they head to Charlottesville, Va. for the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic where they will face William and Mary on Monday (Sept. 10) and host Virginia on Sunday (Sept. 12).
