Stony Brook men fall to South Florida

Updated: September 8, 2010
The Stony Brook University men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to South Florida Tuesday night at the USF Soccer Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

USF picked up the game-winning goal just 1:16 into the match when Shawn Chin curved a free kick around a Stony Brook wall and past keeper Danny Bonomini (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East).

The Bulls' Bernardo Anor put the game away in the second half with a 74th minute penalty kick goal after getting taken down in the box.

Despite not putting the ball in the net, Stony Brook had some strong chances. The team produced 11 shots, six on goal. Wilber Bonilla (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) had a hard high shot that USF keeper Jeff Attinella deflected over the net in the 58th minute.

Attinella and Bonomini each finished with six saves. Ā

Stony Brook will look to shake its losing streak this weekend when it takes on Holy Cross Friday and Dartmouth Sunday as part of the Dartmouth Classic Tournament. SBU's match with the Crusaders takes place Friday at 4:30 p.m.
