ODU men beat Rhode Island

NORFOLK, VA—Sophomore Chris Harmon (Downingtown, PA.) and freshman Alex Vaughan (Virginia Beach, Va.-Kempsville HS) each scored a goal to lead the Monarchs of Old Dominion to a 2-0 victory
over Rhode Island before a crowd of 1,547 in the 35th annual Stihl Soccer Classic. ODU improves to 3-0 on the season, while Rhode Island drops to 1-2.
Harmon scored an early goal on an assist from freshman Frederico Espinach (San Jose, Costa, Rica) off a rebound shot. In the second half freshman Alex Vaughan got a pass from Chris Harmon for his first
collegiate goal of the season with 32 minutes left in the match.
ODU outshot, URI, 14-9 and held a 9-4 shots on goal advantage. Red-shirt sophomore keeper Michael
Roura (Middletown, NJ.) picked up the shutout for ODU and made four saves.
In the opening game, William and Mary rallied for two goals in the second half to defeat West Virginia,
2-1. Nathaniel Baako and Ryan Snyder scored for the Tribe (2-0), while Moeryhan scored an early
Goal for West Virginia.
Sunday’s schedule will have William and Mary against Rhode Island at noon, followed by ODU against
West Virginia at 2:30.
