Updated: September 18, 2010
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern scored two goals in a span of less than four minutes
in the second half, finishing off a dominating performance with a 2-0 win over
Illinois State Friday night at Lakeside Field.

Sam Greene (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) broke a scoreless tie in the 76th
minute. As Greene put a free kick into the box from 20 yards out, Emily Langston
(Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) timed a run perfectly to screen out the Redbirds
keeper. Greene’s kick bounced once and headed straight into the net. The goal is the
first of the season for the senior, who has recorded a point in each of
Northwestern’s last two matches.

The ’Cats added some insurance in the 80th minute when Northwestern scored off
another set piece. Freshman Julie Sierks (Edina, Minn./Edina) sent a corner kick to
the near post where Jennifer Baumann (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) was waiting
a put a perfect strike on for her second goal of the season.

“I think we’ve been waiting all season to play a complete game like this,” said
Northwestern head coach Stephanie Foster. “We weren’t very happy with our
performance last weekend so we put a lot of work in this week and it was a good game
for us.”

Northwestern (4-2-2) outshot Illinois State 14-5 in the contest. The Redbirds
managed just one shot on goal against the NU back line, which Carolyn Edwards
(Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) made a diving stop to turn aside in the 77th minute
to preserve the clean sheet, her third of the season.

Caroline Dagley (San Rafael, Calif./The Branson School) took four shots in
Northwestern’s victory, including a near goal on a hard shot from the left side
midway through the second period. Jill Dunn (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) put all
three of her shots on target.

The Wildcats wrap up a five match home stand on Sunday, when they welcome No. 7
Notre Dame to Evanston for the first time in program history. The match will follow
the Northwestern men’s game against Holy Cross and is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
